Openwines is a weekly updated magazine-style website that specializes in imparting food and wine matching knowledge through a specially designed "cuisine and wine matching tool" which enables readers to match wines available in Hong Kong to a dish that they have chosen. In the website, readers will also find interviews with hotel / restaurant / local wine shop owners, sommeliers and wine makers when they share their food and wine matching skills and preferences with our readers.
The website also strives to impart wine knowledge through columns written by Mr. Stephen Lau (WSET Certified Educator and columnist) and other wine writers who will provide wine tips and wine knowledge through their blogs. Formal wine courses will also be rolled out progressively for readers who are interested in pursuing formal wine education.
For those readers who are interested in expanding their wine drinking horizon, they will find listing of upcoming dinner and tasting events organised either by outside parties or by us in our page too.
As an added benefit to our readers, we shall from time to time select special, high quality wines in limited quantities for our devoted readers to purchase at concessionary prices.
People running this website are wine lovers who have completed formal wine education up to WSET Diploma level. We have noted that in Hong Kong, most food and wine matching recommendations tend to be western food orientated and there is a void as far as pairing wines with Chinese or Asian food is concerned. We hope that through our efforts, we can fill such void and in the process, help to spread a wine culture among the Chinese community in Hong Kong.
